SuperYouth Story
After 16 years, it is time to upgrade to SuperYouth...
Back in 2007 when our kids were 9 and 11, my wife Afidah was concern about the lack of life-skills in our education system and the focus seems to be more about academic success. It is almost like, all about what you score than what you learn ! So, she was very keen to send our kids to a summer camp in the USA, where kids learn about motivation, confidence-building, communications and essential life-skills to succeed in school and life. But, as the local school holidays do not coincide with the US summer camps, we ended up organising a leadership and life-skills camp in Singapore for kids from Singapore and countries around the region.
We are proud to say that we were very successful in organising the camps not just in Singapore and in various countries in the region. Over the past 16 years we organised many camps and we had campers from Singapore, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and even from the USA. There were many reluctant campers who came back for more camps and made many new friends. There were also many reluctant parents who became good friends and they continue to share about the growth and success of their children. It is indeed very gratifying to share in their joy of seeing how many of them have realized their true potentials, developed socially and emotionally, become more confident to make new friends from different cultures, and to pursue their passions in many diverse areas.
As parents, we have always believed that all kids are smart and want to do well in whatever they pursue. We also believe that every child wants to succeed and not fail, and the reason many do not realise their full potentials is because of the fear of failure. Another, is their not taking ownership !
After 16 years, it is time to upgrade to more relevant and exciting that programs that incorporate financial literacy, community service projects, entrepreneurship, where campers have real life experiences to learn and apply leadership skills and discover more about themselves.
